Guide 4  Piers

The Great and Heroic city of Chiapa de Corzo is one of the many touristic attractions that exist in the whole state. Chiapa de Corzo has a great amount of culture and history that marks not only the city and the state but also the rest of the country. One of the most attractive, visited, acknowledged and recommended place of them all is the Cañón del Sumidero.

 

The boat ride across the Cañón del Sumidero takes 3 hours approximately.

The Cañón del Sumidero, accounts four piers for the tourists to get to know this natural wonder. The Malecón Pier, the Unidad Deportiva Pier, Cahuaré and the Belisario Domínguez Pier, which are available from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon.

 

The visited points in the Cañón del Sumidero boat ride are:

·      Rocky formations, one among them "The Seahorse¨

·      Tepetchía Crag

·      The Colors Cave

·      The Christmas Tree

·      Manuel Moreno Torres water dam (Chicoasén)

Piers

In 1869, the French group of the Foudon and Pedro Gastinel brothers, tried to cross the Cañón del Sumidero, all of them passed away in the adventure.

 

From 1915 to 1922, the professor Marcos E. Becerra and a group of chiapanecos accomplished important advances, but did not went for the big adventure; it is known that they were the first group that ever explored the upper part of the Cannon.
