Church of San Gregorio
"Fuerte Zaragoza"
The Church of San Gregorio is a 17th century construction of neoclassical style. Its facade was built facing west, facing the ancient ruin of the Church of San Sebastian, probably because the Indians erected both facades in honor of the Sun God.
It is of simple construction, of a single nave, the sacristy was built after the temple. On the altar stands the image of San Gregorio. Today it is constituted as a viewpoint with a spectacular view of the Rio Grande and the Plaza Central, since it is located in one of the highest points of the city. Here the troops of Juan Ortega fought against the Republicans, on October 21, 1863.
Its structure was damaged in the earthquake of September 7, 2017, and at the moment it is in repair, but the entrance to the viewpoint is still free and can be appreciated from a single view.
The temple of San Sebastián of Mudejar architecture, has a plant of three naves separated by arcades, which were knocked down by a hurricane in 1993. Mudéjar refers to the Muslim population that remained in Christian property after the Reconquest, conserving its religion and culture. Mudejar art combines different artistic currents (Gothic, Renaissance, Romanesque and several Muslim currents).
It was Fort Independence where Colonel Salvador Urbina established his headquarters on October 20, from where he led the battle to defend the national independence and democratic institutions.
Unfortunately you can not enter, but you can appreciate its beauty from the opposite sidewalk.

Temple of the Calvary
"Fuerte la Libertad"
The temple of the Calvary is located in the city of Chiapa de Corzo, in the neighborhood of San Pedro. It was built in the seventeenth century, although much of its facade and interiors were transformed in the nineteenth century with a neo-Gothic style.
In its interior it conserves an important altarpiece, that represents the descent of Christ on the cross. Believed to belong to the Dominican convent of the city. This altarpiece is one of the best examples of Mexican Renaissance art.
In Fort Libertad there was the first formal war between the imperialist and republican armed forces.
Because of the strong earthquake that occurred in September of 2017, this Temple suffered several damages and is in repair.
